Why would you need a dictionary software when you can use the internet?
Well, perhaps your network connection crashes one night when you have a translated paper to submit the next day. Who knows?
Everest Dictionary has a database with 18 dictionaries, including the main European languages.
The installation process went ok, but problems occurred at the beginning, when we were told we have to install two files (which meant manually going to the installed program).
A simple button which pointed directly to that location would have been nice.
In order for the dictionary to work, you have to go to the Dictionary tab, hit refresh, wait for loading, and then go again to select preferred dictionary.
If you select several dictionaries, then when you search for a certain word, results will be displayed according to the configured dictionary types.
We selected English Bible Names, English English Acronyms, and English Antonyms.
We inputted the word "mother", and results were shown like so: "mother = =father begetter parent male", with a bar above that said “Result from English Anthonyms dictionary” (funny... for a dictionary software to have the word “antonym” spelled wrong).
You can search for an expression that contains a certain word, whole words, or words starting in a certain way.
It also has a fun part, you can start a game where you are given a question, and have to answer correctly by using the dictionary. We have to admit this part was impressive.
All in all, Everest Dictionary has good intentions, and the developers have worked a lot on it, but it still needs some technical maintenance.
